Overview

The Regional Arrangement on the Radiocommunication Service for Inland Waterways (RAINWAT) applies in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Moldova, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Switzerland.

Under RAINWAT, DSC usage is not allowed on inland waterways, and the Automatic Transmitter Identification System (ATIS) is used instead. There is a requirement to obtain and enter an ATIS code in addition to the MMSI when setting up the radio for use in RAINWAT countries. Performance standard, testing standard & carriage requirement

Equipment under the scope of RAINWAT is required to comply with EN 300 698-1 (for fixed VHF equipment) and EN 301 178 for (handheld VHF equipment).
